Last Wednesday was our last day of Clubs.  Some kids wrote letters to famous authors, some traveled home from Europe, and some performed in plays.

It was Ivonne's birthday, and she shared ice cream (that her family made!) with our class, too!  Thanks, Ivonne!

And on Thursday, we went to the zoo!  We had such a good time watching a movie on the bus, and I've heard only great things about all the kids from our amazing chaperones.  (Thank you!)  If you have any more pictures to share, I will post them later this week.

Can you believe we only have 8 days of school left?  I hope to see you all at our end-of-year celebration at 2:00 next Wednesday, June 6.  Have a great (short!) week!

I finally downloaded pictures from my camera!  Here are a few pictures from Ms. Park's last day celebration.  Thank you, thank you, thank you to the families who donated money for her gift!  As you can see, we were able to give her a lot of useful future classroom gifts.
End of Grade testing around the school and mclass assessments in our classroom made for a week of very, very few pictures from K-1!  We were very busy, though!

On Monday, we got new literacy centers about zoo animals.  Be sure to check out pebblego.com for some really cool information about animals!  (Email me for the username and password.)

On Tuesday, we celebrated the birthday of two of our friends!  Happy birthdays, Mia and Cyrenia!

On Wednesday, we went to new Exploration Stations and made it through our second day of testing (lunch in the classroom and no recess or specials till 2!).

We visited the chicks in Mr. Childress's room on Thursday.  They have gotten SO big!  Stay tuned this week for current pictures of them and their new habitat.  (They outgrew the old one!)

We counted our manatee tickets this week and found that we had reached our goal!  We watched the movie Earth and ate (blue) popcorn on Friday afternoon.

Hope you enjoyed the beautiful weather this weekend!

We wrapped up our pet unit by spending more time with Tennessee!  We painted him.

The kids got to choose if they'd like to read to him.  It was amazing how many kids found pet books to read!  Paula even found a book that was all about a dog visiting school!

On Friday, we had Pet Day!  Evan's cat, Elsa, came to visit.

We met Mia's dog, Madison.

We got to meet an unusual pet- a ferret!  This is Lamontia's pet, Shadow.

And Noah's dog, Sam, came!

We had a lot of fun learning about pets and meeting pets of all kinds the last two weeks.

Something important happened this weekend... Ms. Park is now officially a graduate of UNC!  Yay, Ms. Park (and Ms. Herring!).  We're so proud of you!

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!  See you tomorrow.

Manatee Mayfair

Last Saturday was the Manatee Mayfair.  I got to see Mykiah, Carmen, Morgan, Mia, and Porter.  It looked like everyone was having such a great time!

Mr. Childress was in the splash booth, and Hunter hit the target!  A water balloon splashed all over Mr. Childress's head.

The downpour began before it was my turn!  So many people stayed through the rain, though, and some kids even played in the mud.

Ms. Linville (expert cake pop maker), Mrs. Overby, and Mrs. Rogers made manatee cake pops to raise money for Kindercamp.  We raised almost $200- enough to fund two kids' camp experiences!

Thanks, PTA!  What a fun afternoon!

It's Pet Week in K-1!

My puppy, Tennessee, has visited us a few days.  We've been able to learn so much about pet ownership with Tennessee's help.  We have discussed what Tennessee needs to be happy and healthy, we have walked him, we have fed him, and we have given him water.  We've also given him lots of love!

We've also taken care of our class pets- the chicks!  They've grown a lot, and Mr. Childress's class had to build a top to their habitat so they wouldn't fly away.  We helped change out their bedding and got to play with them while that was taking place.

We met Lily's pet turtle, too!  (Lily is in Mrs. Rogers's class.)  It was cool to hear about the needs of a pet turtle.  Her name is Violet, and her favorite food is corn!

We have been working on addition in kindergarten math.

We watched a bit of Wall-E during rainy day recess, and we watched a little more during snack several days last week.  On Friday, we enjoyed popsicles from Ms. Park.  Thanks, Ms. Park!

(I'm sorry for the late post, families!  I am finishing up my first semester of grad school, and it's been a very busy weekend.  Hope you are having a great week so far!)

We had our Eric Carle art sale on Thursday night.  It was great to see some friends and their families!

On Friday, we finally got around to naming the chicks!  We went to Mr. Childress's class to see how much they'd grown (a lot!).  The kids proposed six names for each chick, then we voted to name each one.

Their names are Fluffy, Mordecai, Little Kentucky, Tincy, Little Bo Cheep, and Chicken Little.  The kids got to choose which chick they'd like to hold.

We also got to watch a video of the first chick hatching.  (It hatched after school was over.)  It was so cool to see how hard chicks work to get out of their eggs!  Stay tuned for that video- I'll try to post it later this week.

Hope your weekend was happy!
